On the water, on foot or by bike
All sorts of activities in Mont-de-Marsan
Mont-de-Marsan and the Landes are full of activities of all kinds that can be enjoyed by two or with family.
The Landes are renowned for their suitability for cycling, and Mont-de-Marsan is no exception. Between Mont-de-Marsan and Gabbaret, the Voie Verte du Marsan et de l’Armagnac is a multi-use traffic-free route accessible by bike, on foot or even on horseback. Starting from June 2018, EuroVelo cycle route no 3, also known as the “Scandibérique” or “Pilgrim’s Route”, will pass through Mont-de-Marsan and its town centre. This route links Norway to Santiago de Compostela in Spain.
Another unmissable activity just a short way from the hotel is canoeing/kayaking on the river. From the banks of the Midouze in the very centre of Mont-de-Marsan, you’ll set off on a 13 km journey, Following the route once taken by the freight boats that set off from Mont-de-Marsan to Bayonne with Armagnac, wine and wheat.
Also unmissable are the Fêtes de la Madeleine (the first grand “feria” of the summer), which take place across 5 days in the very centre of the town and in the Arènes de Plumaçon, listed as belonging to “20th century heritage”. 600,000 participants have fun to the rhythm of traditional “banda” music groups. On the programme are bull shows such as the Course Landaise, bull fights, parades, bodega music, concerts and fireworks.
Nearby, enjoy hiking through the Landes Forest and the fun of golf on the 18-hole course at the Golf de Mont-de-Marsan, located in the community of Saint Avit.
